“My mother never did the things that Patrice did, but there were some issues between us [when I was] growing up, and I had to go back to those moments and remember how it felt: it was that little girl who just wanted her mom’s approval. That part was probably most difficult because I’ve already forgiven my mom, but Mercedes has not forgiven Patrice, so you have to feel that again.
